Google has made a significant announcement that many Android device owners are likely to welcome with bated breath.
Google's new tool should provide users with up to 60% more storage space than they now have.
Android Archive, a new app from Google for its smartphone operating system that will aid users with their storage demands and requirements, is one of the company's biggest plans.
The Android Archive software will allow users to free up up to 60% of their storage space by archiving some of the apps they don't use anymore, without having to delete any of the apps they do use. According to the Android Developer blog, it will not be necessary to remove applications in order to free up storage space; instead, just the parts of the application that are no longer in use will be archived. They point out that if the necessity arises to use it, the archived half of the storage may be quickly restored to the active part of the storage, as Google has demonstrated.
Android Archive is expected to be released as an additional feature within the operating system later this year, and developers currently have access to a set of tools as part of the " Bundletool " package that allows them to prepare their applications to work with Android Archive in advance of its release.
Although it is not yet clear what the experience of simply utilizing the Android Archive would be like, customers who complain about having "too little space on their smartphone" will almost certainly welcome this alternative with open arms.
